Newborn Prep Guide
Congratulation on your new bundle of joy! Thank you so much for allowing me the amazing and rewarding job of photographing your new little one in his/her first few days of life, by booking in with Blue Ribbon Photography.
Welcome to the parents newborn prep guide. This page will help you with tips to prepare your beautiful baby for their newborn photoshoot. Our goal is to ensure your newborn is as happy and comfortable as possible during their session to achieve the best possible images we can.
-If nursing or bottle feeding breastmilk, try to eliminate caffeine or anything that may upset babies tummy from your diet for 48 hours prior to your session.
-If bottle feeding, please bring along multiple bottles so we can feed baby during your session. Some babies require multiple top ups throughout their sessions.
-Please try and have some ‘awake’ time if possible prior to heading over for your session. You can bath your baby, let them kick with only a diaper on, tickle their toes, etc. This will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures! We want your baby to be nice and sleepy during their session.
-Dress baby in a button/zip up outfit, ideally nothing that goes over baby’s head so if they’re sleepy when you arrive we don’t disturb them too much.
-Please bring a dummy/pacifier if you are comfortable using one. Even if you haven’t used one yet or baby doesn’t seem to take to it, just for the 2-3 hours that I’m posing baby it can really help. However if you really prefer that we don’t use one, that is fine as well.
-I have the props I need for the session, so no need to bring anything from home unless there is something special or important to your family that you’d like included, just let me know ahead of time so I can include it in the flow of your session.
-The studio will be warm and toasty so please dress in layers! To ensure your baby is comfortable during their sessions, it is a must that I keep the area nice and warm for them.
-I have some beverages and snacks available while you are relaxing during your session. Please let me know ahead of time if anyone has any allergies.
-If you are planning on parent photos, a simple light coloured top will be perfect! Same goes for dad. For the most part, parent shots are taken chest up and take just a few minutes. Please keep in mind its better if there are minimal or no crazy patterns, colours, wording, etc. They are only little for a little while :) If you do decide to have parent and/or family photos, please be sure that your nails are clean (nothing fancy, just not chipped polish) as your hands will make their way into the photos.
-I do have a separate room available for the kiddos and family to hang out in until it’s their time to shine. This includes a TV with Netflix and Stan to watch kids shows or a movie. Depending on baby’s sleepy status, we may start with sibling/parent poses or maybe towards the end.
-Just like for you, simple is better for clothing! Try to stick with lighter coloured clothes with minimal or no crazy patterns, colours, wording, etc.
It is my hope that you come to my home studio feeling comfortable and at home. I am truly honored to be able to document this incredible time in your lives and look forward to getting to know you and your sweet baby!
